Sound diary No.6 - 20111108

Recently, my mon's physical condition is coming rapidly worse and worse. Sometimes it's really hurt to listen to her weak breathing and small volumes speaking like whispering. Beyond the weak voice, i just feel strong spirits behind. Although i know maybe we are closing the moment to face her death, these sounds of dying still make me feel so afraid. Because it's really too harsh to be true.

What an interesting listening experience happened this evening between a cat and my friend. This friend of mine really likes cats. She likes to play with cats. But she use an interesting way to play with the cat: Imitation the sounds of cat. And as the cat seems cannot differ it's a kind of sound from a cat or from a human-being. So they seems like to be the same species in some alternative way: from listening experience!

Artist Statetment

The work "Public fears in the private spaces" i made from recording the private experience in my dailylife. For taking showers and going pees in my daily life, these are quite normal but individual privacy experieces.

Nowadays, in the digital age, we have easily gotten a virtual identification in the reality world, even if we can pretend to be anyone in this virtual world, we still have to face to our isolate real world. We even do not know ourselves.

From this work idea, i just want to expose the reality behind the sounds in our daily life with nature habits -- the water noises by cleaning behaviors. I hope listening the water nooises may awake some parts of our awareness to realize: the relationship between each other in the real world is quite unique and valuable. Maybe the real fear is not in the publics, always behind in our private spaces.

Today is double tenth day, the birthday of Taiwan, R.O.C.. In this kind of anniversary date, our government uses the generally way to celebrate it - the military performance show. While the helicopter is flying over our living place, the big noise from the propeller rotating from far far away. i have no glad feeling from this listening experience. Because i just connected some kind of sonic experiences using in some typical film focusing on war. So these kind of sounds make me thinking about wounds, sorrow and tragedy happening in the other side of the world now. i have to say, it would not make me feel good in these kind of holiday for "celebration". Maybe we should be keep quiet and silence for memorizing past sometimes as more as possible. It will easier to keep something cherish here and now, right?

i have to admit that sometimes it seems like a good thing to overhear another person's private experience, but somehow it hard to avoid if they talked really loud and their high volumes. The most interesting part was: Overheard someone gossiped another person. It looked like we experienced some events together, but actually it was not true. The truth is: i stole some person's life with his personal feelings and he did not know.

As i try to memorize some memories with listening, maybe the most interesting part is listening my parents yelled at my older brother. Because in my childhood, my brother was so nauty and full of indiscipline behavior in his class. So my parents need to yell at him all the time, chase after his absord behavior. And the sounds of women screeming and child crying seemed to form my childhood sound memories.

When Autumn is coming, Summer is going, what is still lefting in the campus? The answer is cicada's noise. i have to admit that sometimes it really makes me confuse what the exctly season now? It seems like erase the borderline between the seasons somhow.Whatever, these full of energetic sounds always stimulus me to do thing full of energy. And i jsut would like to keep memorizing the beautiful scenery moments with these cicada's sounds......
